Bishop Stuart University (BSU) on 7th, Thursday 2026, conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation exercise for the RETI Project at Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, a programme funded by the Mastercard Foundation.
The exercise brought together leaders from the refugee settlement and officials from BSU to assess the impact of the skilling and livelihood programmes being implemented under the project.
The BSU delegation was led by the University Secretary, who represented the Vice Chancellor, alongside the University Public Relations Officer, university officers and trainers involved in the project implementation.
During the visit, the team held discussions with the settlement leadership led by Commandant Mr. Hafisu Luwambo and the Assistant Officer in charge of the Livelihood Programme within the settlement. The leaders appreciated the continued partnership aimed at empowering refugees and host communities through practical skills development and entrepreneurship support.
As part of the monitoring activities, BSU team visited several trainees within the communities and observed the progress they have made after completing their training. The team witnessed several businesses and income-generating activities established by participants as a result of the skills training and financial support received through the RETI Project.
The delegation also visited the Rwamwanja Training Center for Refugees and Host Community, where they met the Principal, Mr. Mutabazi Godfrey and his team. The visit provided an opportunity to tour the training facilities and observe the various skilling programmes offered at the centre.
Among the programmes inspected were carpentry and joinery, bakery, tailoring, crafts and metal fabrication. The BSU team commended the centre for its commitment to equipping refugees and host communities with practical skills that can improve livelihoods and promote self-reliance.
The Monitoring and Evaluation exercise reaffirmed BSU’s commitment to supporting community transformation, refugee empowerment and sustainable development through skills training and strategic partnerships.
