ICT Services at BSU
The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an invaluable tool to enhance learning experience and access to resources. BSU invests heavily in ICT in order to easily deliver education at higher quality and acceptable standards.
Internet Accessibility
BSU has installed a Fiber Optic Cable (National Network Backbone) receiving over 80Mbps from RENU (Research and Education Network – Uganda). The internet is accessible around campus providing a reliable and efficient internet connection to students, faculty members, and staff.
Wireless Coverage and Connectivity
BSU provides a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) to students, faculty, and staff allowing the internet to be accessed from most places on campus. The wireless coverage is freely available 24/7 to registered students, faculty members, staff and guests who visit BSU. The access points across the University are stratified into open access to all eduroam institution members and BSU-wireless that for the staff and students only.
Computer Laboratories
The Computer Laboratories established at the university aim to provide basic functional computer services for users who may not have access to such technology at home or elsewhere. The facilities provide an environment for users to get support and assistance with computer-related issues and are open to all students, faculty and staff.
Computer labs have been equipped with high-quality brands of machines consisting of more than 230 windows PCs and more than 60 UNIX machines (Dell Computers).
These labs are used as a place for free Internet access to students and a place to perform Computer Based Examinations and Web Based Examinations.
Video Tele-Conference facilities
BSU is equipped with two (2) Coded Video Tele-conferences spaces, which are used for communications all over the world, and facilitates virtual classes between BSU and other institutions. To ensure the full integration of technology at BSU.
A nurturing student experience
Bishop Stuart University’s ICT team is committed to providing a nurturing and enriching e-Campus and ODeL experience for all students beyond their studies. We aim to give you a warm welcome with our comprehensive online induction and our student mentors are available to give you extra support and encouragement whenever you need it.
The team organizes a number of events, trainings and initiatives that aim to give you the best possible preparation for your future studies and later career. As well as providing employability advice and tips. They also offer support for undergraduate students who are interested in completing an industrial placement. There is a wide range of online resources available to all students that cover the Library, E-education resources, payments and registrations platforms.
Support for your study
All our students have access to study materials that draw on the cutting-edge research of Bishop Stuart University’s member institutions via the internet. These include a range of printed and online resources. Some of our programmes offer the option of studying courses on-campus or attending intensive study sessions, in sister campuses all over the western region of Uganda. For all programmes you will need computer/internet access and BSU has positioned its self to give support to access all e-resources and services at campus.
The Student Portal
You are required to confirm on your application form that you have access to the internet so that you can make use of resources that are only available online. As soon as you have been registered we will send you a Bishop Stuart University username and password, which will allow you to log in to the Student Portal.
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Platform
The VLE is an important part of your experience with us, providing support in your studies and helping you to feel part of a community. You will have access to a variety of resources, including electronic study materials, student discussion forums, videos, recorded lectures, and more.
