Sports and Recreation
The Department of Sports and Recreation under Dean of Students Office offers welfare and sports skills services to the students through a comprehensive, dynamic and exciting inter-university sports championships in various Men and Women Sports namely: Track and Field Athletics, Mini-Marathon, Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Woodball, Chess, Tennis, Cross-country, Volleyball, Football, Walking, Hockey, Rugby, Swimming etc.
These competitions take place generally in the First Semester leaving the Second Semester free for student choices and preparation for examinations. There are Closed and Open Championships organised by various clubs and ultimately University sports teams are raised out of these competitions for National and International Competitions.
For example, East African University Games, East, Central and Southern Africa University Games, All Africa University Games and World University Games.
The university has a clinic under qualified doctors and other trained workers. It attends to students and other university workers. Complicated cases are referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. And the student’s guardians/parents are informed.
The University uses The Chapel of the Good Shepherd which is at the same time the University Chapel. First, the chapel binds the university community together and students are asked to be actively involved in all chaplaincy services.
Secondly, students are reminded that they are worshiping the Lord God for spiritual growth irrespective of their courses of study. This helps students to realize that in the near future they are going to be responsible workers who “know the way, show the way and go the way”. Other groups that belong to different denominations also have their places of worship.
