In a graduation ceremony held on 22nd April 2026, at the Nakivale Base-Camp Playground, a total of 325 youths from refugee and host communities graduated after completing skills training under the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI) Project.
The RETI Project is implemented by a consortium of nine partners, including Bishop Stuart University, with funding from the Mastercard Foundation. The initiative aims to address unemployment among young people aged 15 to 35 years across 15 refugee-hosting districts in Uganda. Its operations currently span Nakivale, Rwamwanja and Kyangwali settlements in the districts of Isingiro, Kamwenge and Kikuube.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the University Secretary, Mr. Nabaasa Medard Abaasa, emphasized the significance of the skills acquired by the graduates in shaping both their present and future. He encouraged them to apply their knowledge not only for personal growth but also to uplift others and contribute to the transformation of their communities.
The ceremony was graced by the Chairperson of LCV of Isingiro District, Mr. Aaron Turahi, who served as the Guest of Honour. He commended the donors and development partners for their investment in youth skills development and urged the graduates to translate their training into viable entrepreneurial ventures. He further pledged the district’s continued support to Bishop Stuart University and its community-focused programs.
