Earlier today, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) conducted an engaging Leadership and Management Training for Student Leaders as part of “Cambridgization”, bringing together student leaders for a full day of learning and mentorship.
The training, held under the theme “Understanding Leadership,” was designed to equip student leaders with practical leadership and management skills to effectively fulfill their mandates. The programme covered key areas including the basics of leadership and management, roles of student leaders, leadership frameworks, emotional intelligence and leadership styles that deliver results.
The session was facilitated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John F. Mugisha, alongside the Dean of Students and the Chaplaincy. In his address, Prof. Mugisha challenged current government leaders, association presidents, Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) and aspiring presidential candidates to embrace leadership grounded in purpose, integrity and responsibility.
He emphasized that “leadership is not about titles, but about service and the impact one creates for a lasting legacy.” He further encouraged students to move beyond routine responsibilities and become agents of transformation within the university and their communities.
Prof. Mugisha also reminded the participants to uphold the core values of Bishop Stuart University: being responsible, ethical, entrepreneurial, employable and God-fearing, as they execute their leadership roles. He reiterated that BSU is committed not only to academic excellence but also to shaping individuals capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
The training programme featured interactive sessions such as “Unpacking the Basics of Management and Leadership,” “Roles of Student Leaders in a University,” “Exploring Leadership Concepts and Frameworks” and “Emotional Intelligence Competency Framework.” These sessions availed participants with both theoretical insights and practical leadership approaches.
