Bishop Stuart University (BSU) yesterday, 14th August 2026, officially concluded the orientation programme for first-year students (August Intake – 2026/2027 Academic Year). The event was attended by various university administrators and staff, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Francis Mugisha, who welcomed the new students to Bishop Stuart University and encouraged them to embrace the university’s mission throughout their academic journey.
In his remarks, Prof. Mugisha said that BSU is committed to transforming learners through knowledge, skills, values and a positive mindset. He urged the students to work towards a better future while prioritising their wellbeing, spiritual growth and personal goals. “Your future must be good, but to get there, you must be alive. Therefore, consider your spiritual growth and identify your goals,” Prof. Mugisha advised.
The Vice-Chancellor further emphasised the importance of proper planning in achieving success. He reminded the students that their time at university should be guided by discipline, commitment and faithfulness to the institution’s mission. “Our mission as a university is to transform our learners to be Responsible, Ethical, Entrepreneurial, Employable and God-fearing(REEE+G). We shall accompany you throughout this journey, but remain faithful to this mission and you will succeed,” he said.
Also addressing the students, Mbarara City DPC SP Kenneth Kabwigo urged students to remain vigilant and responsible for their personal security. He advised them to avoid unnecessary movements at night, secure their rooms and stay alert to their surroundings. “Don’t move at night, ensure your rooms are well closed at night and, above all, security starts with you,” he cautioned.
The orientation programme provided an opportunity for the new students to familiarise themselves with the university’s academic environment, expectations, values and support services as they begin their studies at Bishop Stuart University.
