A four-day training workshop on Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) organized by PELUM Uganda at Bishop Stuart University (BSU) came to a successful closure yesterday, 25th June 2026. The workshop’s successful conclusion marked a significant step towards empowering smallholder farmers in Western Uganda through PGS training and collaboration between PELUM Uganda and BSU.
Closing the workshop, the University Secretary, Mr. Nabaasa Medard Abaasa, expressed gratitude to PELUM Uganda for their partnership with BSU. He assured continued support from the university for initiatives like the PGS training and commended Assoc. Prof. Rebecca Kalibwani for her efforts in organizing the workshop. He also thanked the attending farmers for their participation and emphasised to them to use the knowledge they have attained appropriately.
Mr. Ssemambo Julius, the Programmes Officer at PELUM Uganda, appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality from BSU and expressed the organization’s commitment to further collaboration with the university. Mrs. Moureen Ankunda, a BSU alumna and a representative from the Agriculture Sector Network Uganda, urged group leader farmers to prioritize transparency and hard work within their groups to achieve their goals.

The workshop concluded with a tour of the university’s agriculture farm, showcasing various projects such as rabbit keeping, crop growing and poultry rearing, among others. Participants noted the educational value of the farm and its potential for further study and learning opportunities.
