Bishop Stuart University (BSU) Faculty of Law on Saturday, 26 August 2026, held the 2nd edition of its Cultural Sports Gala at Forest Park Playground in Kakoba, Mbarara City South. The annual event brought together Law students from BSU, Nkumba University and Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU), providing an opportunity for students from different institutions to interact, build friendships and showcase their sporting talents. The participating teams competed in football, volleyball and netball, with this year’s gala sponsored by Otuke and Co. Advocates.
In the day’s competitions, Bishop Stuart University won the netball competition while Uganda Pentecostal University emerged champions in volleyball. In football, BSU Law Society fielded teams in two groups. Group A, comprising BSU Law students from Years One to Four, saw the Year Three and Year Four teams advance to the final. Year Three emerged victorious after defeating Year Four 2–0 to lift the trophy. In Group B, which comprised teams from outside BSU, Uganda Pentecostal University played to a 0–0 draw with Master Choice before winning the match 3–2 on penalties.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Mr. Musinguzi Cleophas, Senior Sports Officer – Mbarara City, congratulated the winners and participants. He noted that law and sports are closely related because both follow rules and require discipline. He pledged that his office will provide netball and volleyball trophies and medals for women’s teams at the next tournament to promote greater participation of women in sports.
The Head of Department, Faculty of Law, Counsel Allan Byamugisha, commended the Faculty for organising the gala and welcomed students from the visiting universities. He said the event will strengthen relationships between BSU Law students and their counterparts from other institutions. BSU Law Society Sports Minister, Atuhamize Elijah, also appreciated all participating teams for their sportsmanship and contribution to the success of the gala.
The Cultural Sports Gala continues to provide BSU Law students with an opportunity to combine academic life with sports, teamwork, discipline and social interaction while strengthening partnerships with students from other universities.
