Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Uganda, in collaboration with Bishop Stuart University (BSU), has commenced a four-day training workshop on Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) in Western Uganda. The training aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of group representatives in Ankole and Rwenzori regions.
PGS is a locally focused quality assurance system for organic farming that helps farmers improve the quality of their products and obtain certification.
Mr. Ssemambo Julius, the Programmes Officer for Agroecology Markets and Business Development at PELUM Uganda, highlighted the organization’s partnership with BSU to promote agroecology and best practices among agriculture students and other stakeholders. He noted that the workshop is part of PELUM Uganda’s efforts under the Power for Food partnership, supported by Sustainable Nutrition for Uganda.
PELUM Uganda’s vision is to empower and build resilience among smallholder farming communities to sustainably utilize their natural resources. The organization aims to enhance the effectiveness of its member organizations in promoting agroecology through capacity building, research, innovation, networking and advocacy for equitable livelihood improvement.
