Today, 14th May 2026, Bishop Stuart University, in partnership with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), has officially launched a Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at the University’s main campus.
The TISC center will provide researchers and innovators with high-quality technology information services to enhance research and innovation potential. The event began with a tour of the university’s designated innovation research center.
Hon. Amb. Canon. Prof. Francis K. Butagira, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of URSB and BSU Legal Advisor, served as the chief guest and officially launched the TISC. He emphasized the importance of supporting universities as centers of innovation and praised BSU for her ongoing innovative projects. URSB’s decision to establish the 41st TISC at BSU aims to elevate the university to a center of innovation excellence.
Prof. John F. Mugisha, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude to URSB for the training provided to the university staff on innovation and technology. He highlighted the significant impact of the event on the development of research and innovation at the university.
Ms. Mercy Mercy Kainobwisho, the Registrar General at URSB, emphasized the importance of universities in solving Ugandan and African challenges through research and education systems. She encouraged lecturers to transform research into tangible products. Mr. Patrick Mugisha, the Commissioner for Business Development and Quality Assurance under the Ministry of Trade, urged BSU to embrace learning and set standards to enhance research and innovation initiatives under the TISC program. The Ministry of Trade expressed readiness to support the university in this endeavor.
