The Department of Languages and Humanities, on 13 October 2026, hosted a cultural dialogue facilitated by the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU), a non-governmental organisation that promotes culture as a vital tool for human development, national identity and socio-economic transformation.
The dialogue aimed to promote the appreciation and preservation of cultural heritage in tertiary institutions while equipping students and staff with knowledge and skills to manage cultural diversity in institutions of higher learning. During the session, students and staff members from the Department of Languages and Humanities were encouraged to respect and appreciate the cultures of others within their communities and wherever they live.
Mrs. Barbra Babweteera Mutambi, the Executive Director of CCFU, highlighted the organisation’s efforts to preserve and safeguard Uganda’s cultural heritage. She revealed that CCFU had supported Ankole Diocese in protecting its historical buildings and the African Revival Museum. The organisation has also extended support to lecturers at Bishop Stuart University by providing opportunities for further training to deepen their understanding of cultural sites and heritage preservation. Among the BSU lecturers who have benefited from additional training in cultural heritage are Dr. Enock Barigye, Mr. Vincent Nnyanzi and Mrs. Joan Ndamira from the Department of Languages and Humanities.
As part of its commitment to promoting cultural awareness and education, the CCFU team donated books to the university to support students in learning more about cultural rights in Uganda and understanding the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage.
The foundation also pledged to continue nurturing and supporting the growth of cultural heritage studies at Bishop Stuart University, with the aim of strengthening cultural awareness, research and preservation initiatives within the university and the wider community.
