Higher learning institutions from Tanzania, Uganda and across East Africa converged at the Mnazi Mmoja Grounds in Zanzibar for the 7th Annual Higher Education Exhibition, a regional event showcasing academic excellence, innovation, research and institutional partnerships. The exhibition, which runs through mid-July, brings together universities, colleges and trade delegations to promote higher education, strengthen regional collaboration, engage with communities and explore opportunities for institutional partnerships.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony on behalf of participating institutions, Bishop Stuart University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Francis Mugisha, commended the organisers for successfully hosting the exhibition, saying it demonstrates the progress higher education institutions in Tanzania and across East Africa are making. He noted that the event provides universities with a platform to showcase their achievements and innovations while reaffirming that quality higher education goes beyond academic instruction by instilling values, transforming learners’ attitudes and equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
Prof. Mugisha highlighted Bishop Stuart University’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship through its innovation and incubation hubs, which prepare students for employment and self-reliance. He said the hubs enable students and young innovators to transform promising ideas into viable businesses through mentorship and institutional support. The Vice-Chancellor also received a certificate of participation on behalf of BSU and thanked the people of Zanzibar for their warm hospitality and generosity.
In addition to participating in the exhibition, the team from Bishop Stuart University visited several secondary schools across Tanzania to provide career guidance to students and showcase the academic opportunities available at BSU. The schools visited included Dr. Magufuli Secondary School in Zanzibar, Feza Secondary School, among others. Such initiatives are aimed at increasing international student enrollment at Bishop Stuart University while fostering broader collaboration and partnerships with institutions of learning across the East African region.
