The Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) conducted an inspection at Bishop Stuart University (BSU) to consider the institution’s proposal to offer a Diploma in Environmental Health Science. AHPC, a regulatory body under the Ministry of Health in Uganda, oversees the training and practice of allied health cadres to safeguard the public.
Mr. Nyamutare Peter, the Registrar of AHPC, affirmed that the council’s visit was in response to an invitation from Prof. John Francis Mugisha (Vice-Chancellor, BSU). AHPC, in accordance with the AHPC Act CAP 296, recognizes and registers graduates of various health training institutions in Uganda, including BSU. During the inspection, the AHPC team visited Ruharo Nursing Training School on BSU’s campus, inspecting laboratories, computer facilities and lecture rooms. They also examined the chemistry, biochemistry and animal health laboratories, as well as a new laboratory currently under construction at the main campus.
Mr. Peter acknowledged the university’s readiness to offer the diploma programme. University Secretary, Mr. Nabaasa Medard Abaasa, conveyed his gratitude to the AHPC team for their evaluation and anticipated that their recommendations would enhance the university’s academic offerings.
BSU aims to elevate its educational standards with the insights gained from the inspection.
