Celebration of 20 years in Service

Bishop Stuart University has been in existence for 20 years now. In June this year, we will launch the year-long Celebrations to mark 20 years of Bishop Stuart University’s existence. It is indeed worth celebrating 20 years of existence because a lot has been accomplished ranging from commencement in 2002 to receiving a Charter in 2014 until now.

17th Graduation

On 6th May 2022, Bishop Stuart University will hold its 17th graduation. The guest of hornor is the President of Republic of Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni. We have 1772 graduands: Doctorates:2, Masters 20, Post Graduate Diplomas 57, Bachelors 1145, Diploma 501 and 17 Certificates. These students trained via blended learning and we thank God for that milestone amidst COVID -19 pandemic. It has been confirmed that blended learning is the way to go.

Public Lecture on 05th May 2022 at 2:00 pm: THEME: “Higher Education in Uganda’s Growth and Challenges Management in post COVID-19 era”.  The presenter of the topic will be Prof. John Mugisha, the Vice-Chancellor, Cavendish University. The discussant of the topic will be Mr. Hebert Mugumya, the Senior Regional Director, Population Action International (PAI).

Participation in the 12th Annual Interuniversity Human Rights Competition: The 12th Annual Inter-university Human Rights (IHR) Competition, organized by the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) took place at Gulu University this year from 18th to 19th November. Bishop Stuart University participated in this competition and secured a 2nd runner-up position, which is a big achievement.

Employability: We have one of the upcoming Law Schools in Uganda. Our Law students are excelling at the national level. We also have one of the best Nursing Schools in the country. In all sectors, our alumni are taking up leadership positions in various disciplines.

Staffing and service delivery: Currently the University employs 274 staff, both Administrative and Academic.  They have worked tirelessly and adopted eLearning during COVID -19.

May and August intake 2022/2023: Recess students and all students to peruse Nursing and Midwifery are invited for May intake. All other students are invited for August intake 2022/2023. For PhDs, Masters, Bachelor, Diploma and Certificate Courses.

Sports: Bishop Stuart University (BSU) was the third overall champion (2nd runner up overall) in the first ever Eastern Africa University Women Games held at Busitema University from 15th to 17th April 2022. BSU won Gold Medals in Volleyball and Football, a Silver Medal in Woodball and a Bronze Medal in Netball.

This was the first of its kind organised by the Federation of Eastern Africa University Sports (FEAUS) body which is mandated to oversee university sports activities at the Eastern African level.

Female students from the various universities in East Africa including Bishop Stuart University (BSU) took part in different sports disciplines; woodball, volleyball, football, netball, basketball, handball, swimming, scrabble, athletics, and lawn tennis among others.

The 13th Inter-University Human Rights Competitions

Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) conducts inter-university human Rights competitions hosted by universities in Uganda on a rotational basis. BSU was selected to host the competitions this year following the performance as the 2nd Runners up at the 12th FHRI competitions that were held in Gulu University from 18th to 19th November 2021. The competitions will take place from 20th to 21st June 2022.

BSU School of Law was ranked the 2nd in the country and some of our students have always excelled as the best in the country at Law Development Centre and we are among the youngest and fast growing Law Schools in the country. To prove our growth and worth, our Masters of Laws programme (LLM) has been accredited by National Council for Higher Education with effect from 14th March 2022 to commence next Academic Year 2022/2023.

Academic Programme Accreditation: The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) recently accredited our Ph.D. in Religion and Modernity, effective Academic Year 2022/2023. We call upon Church leaders and others from other religions to come and study at BSU. The course is all-embracing.
