Bishop Stuart University (BSU), in partnership with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), today, 13th May 2026, hosted a training workshop ahead of the official launch of the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at the university.
The workshop has brought together members of the University Senior Management Team, researchers, innovators, academic staff and students to enhance their understanding of innovation, intellectual property management and the role of Technology and Innovation Support Centres in promoting research, creativity and knowledge generation within institutions of higher learning.
TISC is a global program of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) implemented in collaboration with URSB. The programme aims to provide researchers and innovators in developing countries with access to high-quality technology information services and other innovation support resources to strengthen their research and innovation potential.
With this development, Bishop Stuart University joins over 40 selected institutions, including universities, innovation hubs and research and development institutions across Uganda, that are benefiting from the TISC programme and access to WIPO databases and innovation support services.
The TISC Centre at BSU will provide researchers, innovators, staff and students with access to online patent and non-patent scientific and technical resources, intellectual property-related publications and innovation support services aimed at strengthening research and commercialization efforts.
During the workshop, participants received presentations on innovations at Bishop Stuart University, the TISC programme, management of university innovations, intellectual property protection and practical training on the use of TISC resources.
The training has equipped participants with knowledge and practical skills to support innovation development, protection of intellectual property and commercialization of research outputs.
