On 13th December 2024, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) sports team set off for the 13th East Africa Inter-University Games, hosted by Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya (from 16th December 2023). The team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a commendable 3rd-place finish in athletics.
BSU’s star athlete, Akampa Seth, a law student, bagged two gold medals in men’s 10,000m and 5,000m races. Seth clinched the gold medal in the 5,000m after crossing the finish line in 14 minutes and 48 seconds followed by Mugume Henry, a student of Agriculture and Community Development, who secured a silver medal within 15 minutes and 30 seconds. Nsimira Mukama Edger won two silver medals in 1500 and 3000 as well.
In the 10,000m race, Seth showcased his dominance again, cementing his reputation as a top-tier athlete. His achievements at these games add to his record, including a World University Cross Country gold and a National Inter-University Games gold. BSU’s female athletes also demonstrated exceptional talent. Kobuhwe Patricia secured a silver medal in women’s 5,000m and a bronze medal in the 3,000m.
The university’s success extended beyond athletics, with several students winning silver medals in woodball and volleyball. The 14th East African University Games will be held in Tanzania in 2027.
