BSU-AVSI partnership in the Skilling in Agripreneurship for Increased Youth Employment (SAY) project
AVSI Foundation is implementing the Skilling in Agripreneurship for Increased Youth Employment (SAY) Project with funding from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN). SAY is a 4 year project (November 2020 to December 2024) focusing on developing competences of young people between 13 to 30 years to increase income opportunities, create jobs and business opportunities in the agri-business sector in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
The SAY project is intended to contribute concretely to an increased agri-skills level of youth and their gainful employment in the agribusiness sector in Uganda as part of efforts to socio-economically spur Uganda to middle-income status.
AVSI Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bishop Stuart University (BSU) to implement the SAY project in the university. The overall objective of this partnership is to provide agribusiness incubation support to innovative agri-enterprises and services, developed by students at BSU.
BSU hereby invites applications from interested students, aged 18-30 years, to undertake a Business/Entrepreneurship Skills Development training between 24th and 26th November 2021, 9.00 am – 4.00 pm everyday. The training will be offered by ExcelHort Agribusiness Incubator (ECHAI) at BSU. The purpose of the training is to impart business skills to upcoming student entrepreneurs in the university.
Applicants who have an innovative business idea and would like to be supported are encouraged to explain their idea in the application. They will be supported to develop and grow the idea for the time that they will be at the university with the aim that upon graduation, they have a business that can provide employment for themselves as well as for other youth that they will employ.
Business ideas are specifically invited in the following agribusiness areas: Dairy, Poultry, Essential oils extraction and Herbal Medicines, ICT, and any other innovative idea of your choice.
- Business ideas are welcome from all university students (all faculties and departments), aged between 18-30 years.
- Students are free to attend the training even without proposing a business idea.
- At the end of the training, at least 20 agribusiness ideas will be competitively selected for further support.
- You will be transported from the university and back every day of the training.
