Bishop Stuart University (BSU), through the Directorate of Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation, officially opened Open Access Week 2026 on 19th October 2026, aimed at exploring how open knowledge can enhance research visibility, impact, and collaboration. The three-day event (19th to 21th October 2026) at Level 3 of the Main Library brings together participants to explore practical approaches to promoting open access and strengthening scholarly communication.
While opening the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John F. Mugisha, emphasised that universities are centres of knowledge production, understanding and information sharing. He noted that generating new knowledge requires access to existing information.

Prof. Mugisha further encouraged the university community to embrace information sharing and make knowledge accessible to others, stressing that this is essential for transforming society. The programme will also explore practical ways to enhance research visibility, improve scholarly publishing, strengthen researchers’ profiles and promote open access to knowledge.
