Programme Objectives
- To produce graduates with broad knowledge and understanding of Agronomy with a specific emphasis on Dry Land Farming.
- To promote professional development of graduates in agriculture by providing the students with hands-on experience of the different disciplines within the realm of Agronomy, biotechnology and climate change.
- To produce graduates with the required skills for carrying out further research and development in dry land farming
Programme Learning Outcomes
On completion of the programme, graduates should be able to:
- Provide advisory services on sustainable crop production to farmers in drought prone areas.
- Carry out independent Agronomic Research in public and private sectors.
- Use different scientific disciplines related to Agronomy and Biotechnology to produce new varieties and address value-chain needs;
- Discuss and provide policy guidance on Agronomic principles on dryland farming and biotechnological methods used in agricultural research.
- Develop, assemble and commercialize crop varieties best suited to Dry Land Areas in terms of biotic and abiotic stress resistance
- Provide leadership in agricultural research, management and marketing in private and public sectors
- Be the expert in teaching and training agricultural professionals in universities and research institutes
- Be stewards of genetic resources and cultivar development particularly for Dry Land Areas

Student Performance Assessment
- Each course shall be assessed on the basis of 100% total marks with proportions as follows: Course work – 40%, Written examination – 60%
- Course work shall consist of laboratory/fieldwork and progressive assessment (assignments/tests), each component assessed at 20%
- For a course without laboratory/fieldwork, the progressive assessment carries 40%
- A minimum of two coursework assignments shall be required per course

(a) The pass grade point per course is 3.0 equivalent to a 60% pass mark
