Three clergy members from the Diocese of Kitgum have been granted the opportunity to advance their studies at Bishop Stuart University (BSU) through a partnership between the Diocese of Kitgum and the Diocese of Ankole.
Rev. Nixson Oloya, Vicar of All Saints Cathedral Kitgum, together with fellow parish priests Rev. Charplain Mwaka and Rev. Raymond Namutala Ocira, said they had never imagined they would get the opportunity to continue their education due to the financial challenges facing their Diocese.
The three clergy serve under the leadership of Bishop Wilson Kitara in a Diocese that continues to rebuild and strengthen its ministry following years of war and insurgency in northern Uganda. Their opportunity to study at BSU was strengthened through Rev. Charles Okidi, a priest from the Diocese of Kitgum who serves as a lecturer at the University.
Speaking about the partnership during a meeting with the priests at his office on 10th August 2026, BSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. John Francis Mugisha commended Rev. Okidi for his commitment, hard work and positive interaction with the University community, which helped strengthen the relationship between BSU and the Diocese of Kitgum. When Bishop Kitarara approached the University seeking support for clergy from his Diocese, BSU responded by offering partial scholarships to the three priests.
The Diocese of Kitgum and Bishop Stuart University hope the partnership will continue to strengthen the capacity of clergy and contribute to the growth of ministry and service in northern Uganda.
