Estates Department

The Estates Department is a young department manned by a lean staff of 5 technical officers and an administrative officer. The technical staff includes an Estates Manager, a clerk of works, an electrician, a plumber, and a part-time carpenter.

The department is a service unit under the office of the University Secretary. It ensures that infrastructure facilities at Bishop Stuart University (BSU) are efficiently managed and serve the intended purpose.

The Department’s jurisdiction covers, among others:

1. Maintenance and servicing of administrative offices and lecture spaces,
2. oversees the cleaning of indoor and outdoor spaces within the University,
3. overseeing waste management on Campus,
4. greening, gardening, and beautification,
5. remodelling existing spaces to suit end-user needs and space allocations,
6. guiding the development of new physical infrastructure
7. strategic and development planning of the University’s physical infrastructure,
8. and vehicle parking management on Campus.

Our overall mission is to support the University’s academic obligations through remodelling and developing infrastructure facilities that match international standards. We focus on providing conducive and sufficient teaching space, administrative office space and having all facilities in a well-serviced and fully functional state.

Well-maintained, conducive, inclusive, and safe workspaces are anticipated to provide a friendly environment for both staff and students to enjoy their work and studying experience at Bishop Stuart University.

Repairs and Maintenance

The Estates Department undertakes repairs and maintenance of all buildings and other physical infrastructure. Routine repairs and maintenance are scheduled by the same department. The end users will be notified when these are scheduled, and necessary actions to be taken. There are, however, occasional repairs that necessitate a request from the end users. This is done on request by the direct end facility users.

When you submit the form, we will be notified, and a confirmation of receipt of the order will be forwarded to you. All works are scheduled, and a work order number will be allocated and communicated to you alongside the request confirmation notification.

When the work is completed, you are requested to comment on our page on how satisfied you are with our services. That is intended to improve our services.

Cleaning Services

The department oversees the cleaning of indoor and outdoor spaces of the University. This is done through a hired service provider. Eastes undertakes monitoring of the hired cleaning services to ensure that the University’s environment is neatly maintained.
Please log a special cleaning service, other than the mandatory work done regularly, using the form attached and/or linked here. All cleaning works will be scheduled and prioritized and a work request number allocated and communicated to you via email services.

Gardening and Beautification

We undertake gardening services, tree planting and flower planting to make the campus green and beautiful. We plant special trees and trim overgrown tree branches to keep our trees in shape and not pose a health risk to nearby buildings and other properties. Your advice and/or comments on bettering our service are welcome.

Space Allocation

1. We are mandated to allocate and monitor space usage in all university in the university buildings. We undertake to provide the utmost safe working and teaching spaces in the University. Because of the meagre resources and constrained physical infrastructure development, we request you to adhere to the allocated space as we steadily work to provide each officer and student the desired and standard operating environment.
2. For any space usage and shifting of furniture and equipment for different purposes, please log a request order using the attached and/or linked form here.
