Bishop Stuart University has flagged off Akampa Seith, a finalist law student at the Faculty of Law, as he heads to represent Uganda in the World Athletics Games happening this July from 16th–27th in Germany.
Seith, a celebrated athlete, is the only Ugandan competing in the 10,000m long-distance race, defending his 2024 World University Cross Country Gold Medal. His journey began in 2021 during the Vice Chancellor’s Tournament and since then, he has lifted the BSU flag high across Uganda, East Africa and the world.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John F. Mugisha, commended Seith for combining academic excellence in law with global success in athletics: “Seith is a rare game changer, a world-class athlete and a lawyer in the making. He remains humble, disciplined and focused. We pray for him and believe he will bring back another gold.”
Speaking at the flag-off, his coach, Mr. Gordon Ahimbisibwe, Uganda’s national athletics coach, praised Seith as one of the most disciplined athletes he has ever trained. “He is humble, determined and destined for greatness,” he noted.
Seith expressed gratitude to BSU Management, his coach, the Uganda Athletics Federation, and God. “I am proud to raise the BSU flag internationally. This university believed in me when I almost gave up due to financial hardship. I thank God, my coach, Uganda Athletics’ federation and my lecturers, especially Mr. Allan Byamugisha, for always guiding me.”
Akampa Seith is on a full sports scholarship, and Bishop Stuart University is committed to supporting all students under its sports scholarship program. BSU celebrates this moment as a reflection of its commitment to holistic education, nurturing talent, discipline and character.
