BSU is hosting an orientation training for assessing the health education needs of African Refugee Men: A collaborative endeavor led by the International Ecumenical Fellowship (IEF) team in partnership with Bishop Stuart University (BSU) and the University of Michigan in the USA.
The IEF team at BSU, under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, in collaboration with the University of Michigan, spearheaded by Prof. HaEun Lee through IEF, is embarking on a groundbreaking research initiative titled “Exploring Male-Led Health Promotion Program in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement Camp.” This collaborative effort aims to address the unique health education needs of African refugee men residing in Nakivale, a pivotal step towards enhancing their well-being and fostering community resilience.
Against the backdrop of global migration challenges, refugee populations often face multifaceted health disparities, exacerbated by the complexities of displacement and limited access to healthcare training needs and resources. Recognizing the importance of tailored interventions that resonate with the cultural and social contexts of the communities they serve, the IEF team and the University of Michigan have joined forces to undertake this crucial research endeavor.
The orientation training for this initiative serves as a foundational platform to equip team members with the requisite knowledge, skills and sensitivity essential for conducting effective assessments of health education needs within the refugee context. Through comprehensive training modules encompassing research methodology, cultural competency and ethical considerations, participants will be empowered to navigate the intricacies of engaging with African refugee men in Nakivale with empathy and respect.
