The competitions organised by the UNFPA-Uganda together with Next Productions Limited to celebrate World Day of 8 billion people, took place from 14th to 29th November 2022 at Next Media Park, Naguru – Kampala. This was aired live on NBS Television.
Following a track record of debates in universities, two universities were selected from each of the four regions that is; Western, Central, Eastern and Northern Uganda (those whose record in debates is unmatched).
At a regional level, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) took on Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) on 14th November 2022 and BSU won the quiz with 65 points while MUST got 45 points. This automatically made BSU qualify for the semifinals representing the Western region in Kampala.
On 28th November 2022, at around 10:00 am, Bishop Stuart University team departed for Kampala to compete in the semifinals with the regional champions. The draws put BSU with Kyambogo University which had earlier kicked Makerere University out during the central region competitions.
Bishop Stuart University advanced to the finals after defeating Kyambogo University and faced off against Gulu University which had previously kicked out Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at their semifinals.
Bishop Stuart University won the trophy after defeating Gulu University in the finals. BSU Students who participated include;
