Yesterday, 15th August 2022, leaders from Mbarara District Local government together with Mbarara District Farmers’ Association (MBADIFA) and Bishop Stuart University held a ceremonial meeting at Mbarara District Local Government Kamukuzi, Production Hall to congratulate and welcome participants who exhibited during the 28th Source of Nile National Agricultural and Trade Show in Jinja Show Grounds (from 5th to 14th August 2022) under the theme “Fostering Resilient Commercial Agriculture for Agro-Industrialisation and Wealth Creation”.
While addressing the audience, the Chief Administrative Officer, Mbarara Local Government, Mr. Kasagara Edward commended Bishop Stuart University for being a University close to farmers and local people in the community. He also hailed BSU for fostering students’ innovations.
Mbarara District was represented by Bishop Stuart University, Mbarara District technical team, Mbarara District Farmers Association and other farmers. Mbarara district was an outstanding exhibitor and overall winner followed by Mukono district.
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maud Kamatenesi Mugisha pledged her continuous support to MBADIFA in exhibitions. “The University has already signed MOUs with farmers to train students in value addition. In return students transfer the skills they attain from the University to farmers while on internship”…She added.
Speaking at the same function, the Chairperson University Council, Prof. Kenneth Kagame said that the University is now planning to upscale all University innovations to a factory level. He added that Bishop Stuart University will soon lead in Banana research.
The Chairman LCV, Mbarara District, Mr. Tabaro Didas appreciated the University for training hands-on agriculturalists who are also into innovations.
