Today, 02nd June 2022, the Faculty of Law, Bishop Stuart University has hosted Senior Counsel Barnabas Tumusingize as a guest speaker at the Faculty premises for a Career Guidance seminar. Law students have got the privilege to feast on his vast and rich experience in the legal arena.
While addressing the audience, he called upon Law students to do extensive reading, be open-minded, be perfectionists, and move with technology. He also encouraged them to go to Law Development Centre (LDC) even when there are a couple of choices one can make after the Bachelors level. “It’s good to have a job, but if there is a chance, go to LDC. You never know when you need it” said Counsel Barnabas.
His brief biography
Counsel Barnabas has a Master of Laws in Commercial and Corporate Law from the University of London, a Degree in Law from Makerere University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law Practice from LDC where the Uganda Law Society awarded him for best student in his year.
He is a member of the Uganda Law Society, East African Law Society and the International Bar Association a global body bringing together lawyers from all over the world where he has served as Chair of the African Regional Forum.
His main areas of practice have been in Dispute Resolution where he has handled cases in the High court of Uganda, the court of appeal of Uganda, the Supreme Court of Uganda and the East African Court of Justice in Arusha both in the First Instance Division and the Appellate Division. He has also practiced in the areas of Banking Law and Insurance and of late Telecoms.
Counsel Barnabas has worked with Mwebesa and Mwenekahima Advocates – Mbarara, Sebalu & Lule Advocates now S& L Advocates and currently serves as Managing Partner in a law firm of 30 lawyers and 20 support staff. He is also serving as Provincial Chancellor of the Church of Uganda providing legal advice to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and the Bishops and other bodies at the Provincial level, the Provincial Assembly Standing committee, the Provincial Assembly and the Board of Trustees.
