The Agribusiness Incubation Hub at Bishop Stuart University together with the iSOFT project at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is implementing a project to produce, transform and commercialise Bio-waste products for example Bio-gas, Bio-fertiliser, etc.
This follows a grant won by MUST in partnership with BSU, NARO, and Biogas Solutions Uganda Limited from Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) under the skill development facility through the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) in September 2020.
The project will give an opportunity to students of Bishop Stuart University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology to learn how to produce Bio-gas, Bio-fertiliser. Students will acquire skills that will give them an opportunity to engage with communities and train the farmers on the use of these products at the same time be hired for construction and production.
TRAINING: Training on the construction of the Bio-digester has already started at the University Farm. All University students pursuing Agriculture related courses and those registered with BSU Agribusiness Incubation Hub are encouraged to attend beginning tomorrow February 23, 2021, at 9.00 am. The training will start with a briefing on the project and go on for two (2) weeks from February 23, 2020.
DURATION: This is an on-going project where a number of activities will be done from time-to time. When the Bio-digester is completed, Bio-gas will be produced from the facility, later on, Bio-fertiliser will be used in agricultural activities around the University Community and also be packaged for consumption by farmers outside the University.
